Hasselblad 503CWD celebrates founder’s 100th birthday

Victor Hasselblad founded the high-end picture taking company 100 years ago, and the company is celebrating his birthday by releasing the 503CWD, based on the classic Hasselblad 503. What you get is a powerful 16 megapixel (36.7 x 36.7 mm sensor) studio-worthy digital camera, but with retro styling… indeed, the 503CWD “may well be the most beautiful digital camera ever made.”

Other features include a 2.2-inch OLED display and FireWire 800 output, not to mention Victor Hasselblad’s signature engraved right on the camera. In line with the commemorative occasion, they even throw in a limited edition Victor Hasselblad biography booklet. The Carl Zeiss Planar CFE 2.8/80 lens isn’t anything to sneeze at, and you’ll be ready to go right out of the box thanks to the included 1GB compact flash card and FireWire cable. Other bonuses include a chrome winding lever and a focusing screen with image format markings.

Despite its hefty $14,000 price tag, expect the 500 limited edition Hasseblad 503CWDs to fly off the shelves, because hey, we’re going to party like it’s his birthday.
