Vivitar has been real busy lately, working on all these new cameras and all, and now it seems that the company is about to release a couple more. Expect the Vivitar 8600s real soon, because it is slated for a “February release”, whereas if you’re in the market for something not quite so flashy, you’ll have to wait until June before you can get your hands on the 6150s.

The Vivicam 8600s sports a quite decent 8.1 megapixel imaging sensor, for a resulting resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. You’ll be able to get in real close on the action with the 4x digital and 6x optical zoom. Preview and review your shots on the 2.8-inch color LTPS LCD display, and store it all on a Secure Digital card up to 1GB. Power comes in the way of a rechargeable lithium ion battery, and yes, this cam is PictBridge ready.

The Vivicam 6150s is basically a beefier version of the previously announced 5150s. You’ll get six megapixels of goodness to go with the 2-inch LCD. It’s a little unclear whether there is optical zoom on this thing – as the 5150s does not have this feature, and there is no mention of it on the 6150s spec sheet – but the company does say that “although there is optical zoom available, the 4x digital zoom offers the creative freedom you may need to capture that memorable shot.” There is 16MB of internal memory to go with the SD expansion slot, and power comes from a pair of AA NiMH batteries.
