Not everyone needs DLSR greatness, or overly complicated customization of shots. For some of us, getting a good vacation snapshot should be as easy as, well, to point and shoot. Ricoh’s new RR630 is an entry-level digital camera that the company says is “Smart, Simple and FUN!”
The 6.1 megapixel CCD is more than adequate, especially if you’re only going to view your pictures on a computer monitor, or on small-ish 5×7 print, you can even get away with nice 16×20s. The RR630 comes with a fairly standard 3x optical zoom, but if you want some real up-close action, you can make use of the 6mm Macro mode. Like most other cameras on the market, this Ricoh too comes with a simple Movie mode (320×240 pixels, 24fps), and the 2.0-inch LCD screen on the back does what it needs to do.
Of course, the 16MB of on-board memory won’t get you very far, so you will most definitely need to invest in an SD card. No price for North America yet, but over in London you can grab one in March for £129.99.
