3Dlabs, makers of the dynamic Wildcat Realizm and other video processors, will bring its 3D graphics expertise to the handheld business, its parent company, Creative Technology, announced on Friday.

With the growth in offerings of multimedia services on handheld devices, the move is perhaps no surprise. More than ever before, handhelds are sporting shiny new audio, video, and 3D graphics offerings. With its experience, 3Dlabs should be right at home in the new market.

Creative Technology, the manufacturer of Sound Blaster sound cards and Zen portable audio players, said that the 3Dlabs transition would result in a job loss of 100 and a dual-charge total of US $34 million.
