Coming from the company that dominates nearly all home computer operating systems, as well as having a substantial market share in the realm of smartphones, it should really come as little surprise to hear that Microsoft wants a nice big piece of the pie when it comes to consumer electronics as well.

The world’s biggest software developer announced yesterday that it would work to increase collaboration with Korean companies to “develop convergence devices like IP-TV, IP set top box, VoIP telephone, and home networks.”

Mobile and embedded business in Korea is experiencing some huge growth, with a predicted 150% year-on-year growth for 2006. Microsoft isn’t only getting in on the action, but they are helping it along. “Embedded technologies are spreading into mobile, digital media/contents and wireless telecommunications,” according to Microsoft Korea. “Window (sic) embedded can cut development period and cost by 43% and 75% respectively, thereby enhancing the company’s competitiveness.”
