Amazon.com has really been breaking into the mobile world lately, first announcing plans to unleash a pre-loaded iPod-esque music player, and now the online retailer is reportedly working on a mobile phone Java application called “Price Check for Amazon.”

By the sounds of things, you’ll be able to take a picture of any barcode you find while shopping, and this mobile commerce tool will be able to look up prices, reviews, and other information on the Amazon.com site and send it back to you. This software solution is being developed by Moonlight Mobile, and word on the street is that they’re only going to charge a one-time download fee. No more wondering, “How good do you think this product is?” Amazon’s customer reviews are right at your fingertips, no matter where you go.

Amazon already has an excellent mobile portal, so “Price Check for Amazon” seems to be a nice addition to the services it can offer through a cell phone. This new service should be rolling out “within the next few weeks”
