As if the regular model wasn’t enough to wet your pants over, Lamborghini has kicked up its flagship vehicle another notch with the Murcielago LP640. The “LP” in its name stands for “longitudinale posteriore”, referring to the 6.5-litre V12 beast mounted lengthwise behind the cockpit. You can even show off the engine with the optional glass cover.
You’ll certainly get going in no time flat with the incredible 631bhp at 8000rpm, allowing this supercar to do 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds – that’s almost a half second faster than the standard issue 6.2 litre Murcielago. Top speeds are reportedly higher than 210mph. This is the fastest production Lamborghini ever built.
The innovative four-wheel-drive system can apply the power 100% to either end, but usually gives about 70% to the rear. All this power wouldn’t be useful without some aerodynamic upgrades as well, so the front and rear bumpers have been reshaped to funnel air more efficiently, and the exhaust has bee integrated into the rear diffuser.
The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 will be showcased at the Geneva Auto Show next week. You better start saving up those pennies and nickels now, because when this monster of a car goes on sale March 1st, you’ll need just over $320,000 USD to park one in your garage.
