Canon is targeting professional photographers, photojournalists and advanced amateurs with a new camera and two new lenses announced today. The EOS 30D Digital SLR sports 8.2 megapixels for high-end usage. It has a fast five frames-per-second capability and field tested toughness to stand up to all the abuse you can dish out. A 2.5 inch, 230,000 pixel LCD screen lets you see what you are shooting. Another attractive feature for committed users is that the ISO speed can be set in 1/3 stops from 100 to 1600 instead of the full stops of earlier models. You can also see your ISO settings in the viewfinder in the 30D. Previously, you had to look on the display to see the settings. It will be available in mid-March at a body-only price of $1,399.

To complement the new camera, Canon has added two lenses – a large aperture standard zoom lens and an ultra-fast medium telephoto lens. The EF-S 17-55 mm f/2 IS USM combines a large maximum aperture and high shutter speeds to minimize blurry photos. It will hit the market in May for $1,149. The EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM is a revised version of the 17 year old EF 85mm f/1.2L USM. Among the changes is 1.8x faster autofocus. It will be on sale in March for $2,099.
