Porsche has rolled out the media red carpet for its new 911 Turbo. The model won’t launch until the Geneva Motor Show, which begins March 2, but you can start learning all about the new speedster now.
First and foremost is a ramping up of horsepower, torque, and speed. Specifically, the 911 Turbo can crank out 480 hp at 6000 rpm, a 60 hp boost; the torque is 457 foot-pounds, and the rocketing up to 62 mph takes place in just 3.9 seconds. Want ever more? You can request the optional “Sport Chrono Package Turbo,” a first-ever option that allows you the driver to press a “sports buttom” next to the gear lever that will give you a brief “overboost” at full throttle, for even more blasting power.
Manufacturers want you to know, however, that despite all of these improvements, they have also reduced average fuel consumption by a full tenth, to 12.8 liters per 100 kilometers.
It’s a six-speed manual transmission, of course, and an electronically controlled multi-disc clutch that enhances handling and driving pleasure.
The 911 Turbo will be available at your finer Porsche dealerships in the U.S. beginning this July. Prices are targeted to start at US$122,900.
