In the era of optical media and flash drives, who would’ve thought that hard drives could still be hip and fashionable?
LaCie has just released a line of portable hard drives that has a unique and peculiar look. Famous designer Karim Rashid provided the art for the company’s new storage device which is labeled as “Skwarim”. Rashid’s services have been sought after by various companies including Prada and Umbra.
The technical aspect of the hard drive matches its aesthetic value. It has a consolidated USB 2.0 cable which assures convenient connectivity. This also means that the user would not need a separate power cord or supply for the drive. It has a fast rpm rate at 4200.
Carrying the drive is very convenient as it only weighs 99g. Its 85×85x13mm dimension makes it very easy for the user to slip it inside his bag or purse. It also has a sturdy case which protects it from the usual perils of portability such as blows or drops.
LaCie also made backing up files in its new drive simple and convenient by including a program for such a purpose. The software supports Macintosh and PC units.
The Skwarim comes in several versions. The 30GB model is in dazzling pink and is priced at £85 or US $149. Its 60GB counterpart comes in electric blue and costs £115 or US $199.
