Calypso will show off its new WiFi-GSM Dual Mode VoIP smartphone at the 3GSM World Congress next week in Barcelona. The Miami Lakes, Fla., company says that the phone will run on Intel PXA series processors and the WinCE 5.0 operating system. Long-distance calls will be made via Skype.
The phone will mark a leap forward in cross-platform connectivity for mobile phones, allowing what the company promises is seamless switching between GSM and Wi-Fi. The phone will also offer video calling.
Calypso said that the phone sports the company’s ASNAP technology, which allows mobile phones instant access to any available Wireless Local Area Network and facilitates greater capability in two-way video conferencing, VoIP and network games.
