The exciting, consumer-pleasing DTS will be part of a handful of luxury vehicles very soon. Lexus, Mercedes, and Infiniti will all offer as either a standard feature or as an option the 5.1-channel surround sound systems made famous by Digital Theater Systems, Inc.
This will be the third year that cars available in the U.S. have had DTS capability as a standard feature. The first was the 2004 Acura TL. Last year, a few models sported the DTS functionality as well, including the Cadillac STS. But the addition of the luxury car circuit widens the appeal and reach of DTS.
This year’s Mercedes S-Class sedan will have DTS multi-channel sound and a DVD-Audio system as standard features. The Infiniti M and Lexus GS, IS, and LS will offer those features as options.
DTS also offers its own music service, which is part of the package as well.
“As we’ve seen over the past couple of years, car manufacturers are integrating surround sound systems into more of their OEM models as consumers are beginning to demand a multi-channel audio experience in their vehicles,” said Brian Towne, Senior Vice President, Consumer / Pro Audio Division at DTS. “With the addition of Mercedes, Lexus and Infiniti integrating DTS-capable surround sound systems, we expect to see the automotive industry to continue to integrate multi-channel systems in the coming years.”
