Hard drives are not the traditional hardware of choice when it comes to portable data storage due to durability concerns. Improper handling of the hard disk usually results in instant data loss or corruption. Western Digital’s new offering changes that perception.
The 2.5-inch Passport Portable USB drive has a sturdy architecture that could withstand the ordinary rigors of portability like blows or other impacts. It has rounded angles and a slip resistant shell. Users should also not worry too much on possible data loss since the drive has Data Lifeguard protection.
Connectivity is via USB. This makes it compatible to almost all systems. All the user needs to do is plug the unit to a PC or laptop. Power is also via USB, so there’s no need for a distinct power supply to run the drive.
The 120GB version of the Passport drive is ideal for large data transfer or sharing from one device to another. Its size also makes it a viable backup device. The Western Digital hard disk also comes in 40-, 60-, 80-, and 100GB capacities.
The drive can be conveniently carried through the Passport carrying case which has an estimated cost of US $24.99 (£14.28). The Passport Portable USB drive is priced at approximately US $199 (£113).
