Dodge must believe that what the world needs is another SUV. They have obliged by unveiling the 2007 Nitro, which will be formally debuted later this week in Chicago. From underneath it looks like a Jeep Liberty. In size it fits between the Caliber and the giant Durango. Like the Liberty, it comes with a 3.7L, 210 horsepower V6 with either a six speed manual or four speed automatic. Unlike the Liberty, you can choose more power in the form of a 4.0L, 255hp V6 instead, but you have to settle for a five speed automatic with this choice. You can get your Nitro in 4×2 or 4×4 as you prefer.

One feature that will garner some attention is the ‘Load ‘n Go’ moving cargo floor. It can slide up to 18” to make loading and unloading the vehicle a little easier. It will have lots of features for the safety conscious – stability control, anti-lock brakes and side curtain airbags among them. All the high tech toys you could want will be available as options.

Now word yet on price or availability.
