Two new AMG SL-Class Roadsters don’t lack power

image_41492_largeimagefile Two new AMG SL-Class Roadsters don't lack powerMercedes’ AMG will be unveiling two new looks to make you drool at the Geneva Auto Show. The SL55 and SL65 have both received a facelift and are now a couple of fine looking roadsters.

The SL55 has seen a jump in horsepower from 500 to 517 with the 5.5-liter V8. That’s thanks to a larger throttle valve and a faster-spinning supercharger. Torque jumped to 531 lbs-ft from 516. That means zero to 62 miles per hour used to take 4.7 seconds, but now only takes 4.5. That’ll get you down the Autobahn nicely.

The SL65 has a bigger engine and it shows in the number. They haven’t improved the engine like they did for the SL55, but did they really need to? It’s a 6.0-liter V12 bi-turbo beast with 612 horsepower and jawdropping torque; how does 738 lbs-ft sound? In about 4.2 seconds.

Cars with that kind of equipment under the hood don’t come cheap, especially when they look as good as they do. The SL55 starts at about $162,000 and the SL65 will set you back at least $250,000. Before you head off to the local Mercedes dealer with your mastercard, though, keep in mind that these are destined only for the German market.
