North America’s first mobile podcast service is here, courtesy of an American software developer and a Canadian wireless provider.
Rogers Wireless, Canada’s leading wireless provider, has entered into an agreement with the U.S. company Melodeo, which specializes in digital media for mobile phones, to produce Rogers Podcast Service, known by its more common name Mobilcast.
“Rogers Podcast Service allows our customers to access the latest in digital information and entertainment by bringing one of the fastest growing mediums on the planet, Podcasting, directly to their phones,” said John Boynton, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Wireless.
What does it mean to you? Not much unless you’re a Rogers Wireless customer. Still, those who are customers can now get more than 1,500 podcasts on their mobile phones. The listings are updated throughout the day as well.
A total of 16 categories are currently available, running the gamut from music and news to travel and religion.
