Yahoo and Linksys have announced the creation of a new product to facilitate digital music sharing between home computers and home stereo systems.

The name of the product is the Linksys Wireless-G Music Bridge, and its common market price is US$99.99. The functionality allows direct streaming wirelessly from machine to machine, eliminating the need for wires and other “middleman” facilities. The net effect is nearly direct communication from an Internet download connection to a home stereo.

The Music Bridge works only with Yahoo’s digital music download service, Music Engine, which is available for free download but which requires a service subscription. The Internet giant has said that it will offer a $20 rebate on the Music Bridge if the buyer also purchases a one-year music service subscription.
