Whereas everyone else is putting out portable storage devices in bland silver, it’s-been-done glossy white, or plain-Jane black, LaCie has opted for a different path. The company’s new Skwarim external drive, quietly unveiled at CES, comes in either blue or pink. But that’s not all, it’s textured. Literally, feel the love.

The square 3.3-inch wide portable hard drives are USB 2.0 compatible, with a hide-away integrated cable and USB bus-power. Compatible with both PC and Mac computers, the Skwarim with a “futuristic look” was designed by world-renowned designer Karim Rashid, the man who has dreamed up over 2000 products for such companies as Umbra, Prada, and Miyake. Packaged in with the portable hard drive is LaCie’s Backup Software for quick and easy storage of all your important files, and your less-important ones too.

You’ll find plenty of storage space here, as the LaCie Skwarim comes in 30GB ($150) and 60GB ($200) varieties. The company is currently accepting pre-orders, with an official retail launch next month.
