DirecTV to launch portable media player service

On Tuesday DIRECTV Group Inc. announced that it plans to launch various new products in 2006 which will include its new DIRECTV 2Go service for portable media players and a new HD DVR.

DIRECTV, which has a 34% stake from News Corp, will start offering some of the top programs from channels such as NBC and cable networks, USA, SCI FI and Bravo, within hours after they air. The programs offered will be commercial free and will be available for just 99 cents through the new DIRECTV Plus interactive DVR from the first quarter of 2006.

The other new service from it the DIRECTV 2Go service will allow the users of DIRECTV to easily and effortlessly transfer of programming content from their DIRECTV Plus DVR to a wide variety of portable media players.
