This chipset is one of the first to support Microsoft’s next generation operating system, Microsoft Vista. It also includes Powerplay 6.0, which minimizes the power demands while running in battery mode.
Let’s get technical for a second – the Mobility Radeon X1600 includes brand-new multi-threaded 3D architecture and memory controller, dual-link integrated DVI for support of the highest quality digital panels, 12 Pixel Shader processors, and five Vertex Shader Units. The chip supports DDR, DDR 2, GDDR 3 and GDDR 4 memory across a 128-bit, quad-channel interface.
“Today’s laptop designs continue to push the envelope in their demand for higher performance using less power. Mobile graphics produced with TSMC’s 90nm (fabrication) process show an enormous improvement in clock speed and power reduction versus earlier generation technologies,” said Kenneth Kin, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Service for TSMC.
