If you own a PSP that was bought in North America, Sony has released their System Update 2.6. As you would expect, it offers users enhancements and new functionality. The highlights are RSS capability and WMA playback, it can be downloaded immediately from Sony today.

The RSS capability uses RSS 2.0 technology to link to RSS-distributed audio content. Content can be accessed in MP3 or MP4 format. Only digital audio content will be supported by the RSS feature. Windows Media Audio is now playable, adding a key format that was previously lacking.

Another update in this version is the ability to download copyright-protected video data directly to a Memory Stick Duo.

The company warns that some software titles may not work without the update.
