This 5-megapixel subcompact digicam comes with a 2.4x optical zoom lens and DIGIC II processing for great picture quality, including up to A3-size prints. The 1.8” LCD is wee small, and the flash isn’t particularly powerful, but for us point-and-shoot type shutterbugs, they’re adequate. The start-up and auto-focus are quick, and the user interface is intuitive and straightforward, including larger animated icons.
One feature of the SD30 is particularly interesting: an Intelligent Orientation Sensor automatically rotates images for review. Adding to this, when the camera is held in a “portrait” orientation, the FUNC/SET button doubles as a shutter release, making portrait taking just a touch easier.
According to LetsGoDigital, “Canon realizes that quality has to go hand in hand with the design,” and it seems like the camera manufacturer has another winner with the SD30.
