Paris is still burning and you can thank mobile technology in part for fueling the flames.
Taking a note from anti-globalization protesters who apply mobile technology to organize, disgruntled French youths are using their cellphones to coordinate and plan out riots throughout the country.
According to criminologist Alain Bauer: “Text messages and mobile phones …help small groups of rioters. They can connect easily. It’s not only a way to avoid the police it’s a way to organize the fires.”
Bauer adds: “Its old guerilla tactics with modern technology.”
French authorities declared an official state of emergency Wednesday after two weeks of massive nationwide protests and riots over unemployment and racism.
