Toshiba Japan has a fancy new portable DVD player, the SD-P2800. As most portable players, this has an LCD display with a resolution of 800×480, the angle of visibility is 170 degrees, so you can watch it with a whole bunch of friends and you don’t even have to sit too close. As you would expect it also plays DVD-R/RW and CD/ CDRW and all the usual varieties of formats. Where it sets itself apart is the functionality to play 14bit/108MHz video DAC, so the picture conversion is of very high quality. It’s also the only machine with a four-in-one memory card slot for SD card, MMC, Memory stick and XD picture card. Throw in a TV and FM tuner, and you have a unique portable DVD player from Toshiba.
The lithium ion batteries provide 4.5 hours of juice. It weighs 1.3 kg and it comes complete with a remote, AC, AV out cable, headphone and car adapter for $600. You can pick one up in Japan starting in early December. Sure it’s a nice looking unit, but my question would be why wouldn’t you just get a laptop for a couple hundred more dollars, which can do all that and much more? Clearly I am not the target for this product, not unless the price comes down substantially.

Player absolutely bad. Anything after a month of usage does not read – DVD or CD.
