It’s a case of keeping up with the Joneses, or the massive wireless-cable joint venture in this case. DirecTV has announced it will work with “an array of partners” to expand the reach of its programming beyond televisions. This announcement comes just one day after Sprint Nextel announced they were teaming up with four U.S. cable companies to combine services.

Details are scant at this point and the announcement was probably rushed by yesterday’s news. Chase Carey, the CEO of DirecTV says that they will unveil some of the new devices they will feature at the Consumer Electronics Show. According to Carey the company will have “a fair amount of devices of our own.”

“That is going to be how you expand the DirecTV experience beyond simply television,” Carey told analysts.
