Why buy the whole book when you can just buy a page? That must be the question that Amazon.com is hoping you are asking yourself. A newly announced product, called Amazon Pages, will allow you to search within a book and purchase only the page or chapter that you want to read. Instead of buying one book on a subject, you could compile your own book made up of chapters from several books. This would allow you to access the most relevant information for your purposes.

A second product, called Amazon Upgrade, was also announced. When a customer buys a book from Amazon, they will have the option to upgrade for a small fee. This means that they will have permanent access to an entire online copy of the book along with the hard copy they have purchased.

“Amazon Pages and Amazon Upgrade leverage Amazon’s existing Search Inside the Book technology to give customers unusual flexibility in how they buy and read books,” said Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO, Amazon.com. “In collaboration with our publishing partners, we’re working hard to make the world’s books instantly accessible anytime and anywhere.”

Both products are still under development and pricing details are not yet available.
