If the prize goes to the smallest, then MCNex wins hands down. The Korean company has produced the world’s tiniest VGA camera module. It is 5.5 mm square and just 2.9 mm tall, causing MCNex to proudly proclaim that they have broken the 3mm height barrier.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the demand for slimmer phones packed with more features is driving the development of these tiny modules, it is also creating strong competition between Japanese and Korean companies.
MCNex gave us a peek at what else they are working on. 7-megapixel and 8-megapixel modules are in the works and plans to launch a 3-megapixel module with optical zoom before the year is over.
