Today Nokia has announced three new phones with a range of specific uses. The creativity doesn’t end there. You can’t call them phones anymore. You have to call them ‘multimedia computers’ to reflect their range of capabilities.
The N71 is a clamshell which is all about music. It has a USB connection for easy download of your tunes. It has a 5-band graphic equalizer and a headphone jack and can store 2GB worth of audio.
The N80 is the phone for the heavy traveler. It supports four international networks and 802.11g so you can use VoIP, too. It has a 3-megapixel camera and flash as well. Interestingly, this is the first Nokia phone with Universal Plug and Play, meaning it will be ready for the Digital Home initiatives as they develop.
The N92 is your mobile TV. It has a twistable 2.8-inch screen and buttons for changing channels. The don’t-call-it-a-phone supports the DVB-H mobile TV standard, can access WiFi and will store 30 seconds of playback.
No word yet on when or where these new phones will be available, what they will cost or why they insist on using such boring names.
