Samsung has now come out with their M40S hard disk drives series, 2.5-inch high-end Serial ATA (SATA) disk drives. Available in three different configurations; 40GB HM040H, the 60GB HM060II and 80GB HM080JI, the new offering from the Korean electronics giant is promising to enhance power to today’s high end notebooks and corporate computing applications.

The company has begun shipping the new disk drives and they are being offered with price tags of $80 (40GB), $100 (60 GB) and $140 (80 GB). They are being looked at by Samsung as part of its tradition to offer state-of-the-art storage solutions to end users.

The M40S Series drives feature 8MB of onboard data cache and high performance 5,400rpm spindle speed. They also promises to provide outstanding protection through an advanced mechanical platform and robust cover design meant to subdue the intensity of external shock transmitted to the most critical components of the drive. The latest 2.5-inch hard drives offer a Fluid Dynamic Bearing Spindle Motor Technology, ATA S.M.A.R.T. compliance, ATA Automatic Acoustic Management and ATA Streaming. On an overall basis, these have been developed by utilizing Samsung’s patented NoiseGuard and SilentSeek next generation technology.
