SanDisk has shipped their first U3 Smart flash drive, it has been designed to enable a user to store and manage their “personal workspace”; files, programs, passwords and settings, all on a device the size of a pack of gum.

The SanDisk Cruzer Micro with U3 will offer a secure and customized experience on any PC with Microsoft Windows XP or 2K without leaving any personal information on the host machine when the device is removed. This would be a perfectly safe solution for the mobile professional, and thus allow them to be at ease and not worry about bringing an expensive notebook computer on their travels. It’s even great to bring to work or to school, public terminals can hardly be trusted, and many won’t have all the programs you require.

“U3 technology provides a new dimension in personal mobility,” said Yoram Cedar, SanDisk’s senior vice president of engineering and the emerging markets business unit. “Now, anyone who moves between different locations and PCs can carry their personal files and programs, in a pocket or purse, and work with them in a highly protected environment,” he said. “SanDisk’s U3-powered smart drives also provide private computing on any PC, whether the user is at home, in a hotel or at an Internet cafe.”

The U3 Smart SanDisk Micro Cruzer will ship in 512MB and 1GB versions at the price of US $54.99 and $99.99 respectively. They will be available to U.S. customers in October, global customers will have to wait until later this year or Q1 of 2006.
