Japan’s Access Co., Ltd., well known for their mobile content browser NetFront, has purchased PalmSource, Inc. the official provider of Palm OS, for US $324.3 million cash.

The acquisition of PalmSource is expected to further extend Access’ leadership as a provider of mobile content delivery and Internet Access software for mobile devices worldwide. With this acquisition, Access gains operating system platform expertise and Linux development resources for mobile devices in the U.S., France and China.

Earlier this year PalmSource aquired China MobileSoft primarily for their Linux technology based platforms for mobile devices. By combining the already robust NetFront browser and Linux-based platform knowledge, Access will be at the forefront of new mobile device developments.
