Samsung Enters Smartphone Market

South Korean electronics giant Samsung, has finally decided to make a full-fledged foray in the European smartphone market. They have formally announced the launch of the company’s first Symbian OS-based smartphones – SGH-D720 / SGH-D730 – for consumers in Europe. The company has chalked out a phased roll out plan of its new product. The D720 and D730 will be first introduced in the German market before the end of this month, and will be followed by its launch in France, Italy and Russia.

The company is claiming a sleek slide design for its D720 model and it weighs only 110g. At 97 g, D730 is a much lighter phone. With the inherent Symbian OS application, the company is promising these phones to be better equipped to perform multiple tasks and offer a more user-friendly environment especially to business class customers.

The D720 and D730 are also equiped with a 1.3-megapixel camera and MP3 player. A key additional feature is the two-way e-mail function and instant messaging capabilities that claim to enhance the overall value of this convergence device in the hands of consumers. The phones also have an internal storage capacity of 18MB and support an external memory storage capacity up to 512MB. Both models will provide Bluetooth-based multiplayer games wherein two people can play with each other.
