Portable media players are usually quite large, bulky, and many don’t fit in your jeans pocket. Samsung has just unveiled their YP-T8 flash-based portable medial player that is small enough to fit anywhere, yet packed with enough features to keep you entertained for hours on end.
With a crystal clear 1.8-inch TFT colour LCD, Samsung has loaded this PMP to play MPEG movies, JPG files and MP3, WMA, WMA-DRM, OGG and ASF audio into a 2 ounce device that measures 3.3 x 1.7 x 0.6-inches.
Models will be available in various sizes, but I wouldn’t cheap out on memory when it comes to a device like this, the more media you have access to the better. 512MB, 1GB and 2GB models will sell for $199.99, $249.99 and $299.99 respectively, an excellent deal when comparing these to audio only units.
Support for USB host connectivity allows you to transfer files to the player from other devices, without the aid of a PC. An FM tuner and recorder will let you save your favorite programming, and a built-in Li-Ion battery will provide 20 hours of playback (it is unknown if this is for both audio and video or just audio). The Samsung YP-T8 will be available from retailers this month.
