LaCie has begun securing their mobile hard drives with biometric technology. I’m not sure if the fingerprint authentication sounds similar to IBM’s na na na na na na, but it will do an equal job of keeping unauthorized users from accessing your data.

The LaCie SAFE Mobile Hard Drive unlocks when you swipe your finger across the sensor, it works on any PC or Mac, and can have up to five different users registered with customized access privileges such as read/write or read-only.

“With our new SAFE Mobile hard drive, people can now transport important data without concerns,” says Marie Renouard, LaCie Product Manager.

A 40 GB version sells for $149.99 while an 80 GB goes for $199.99, both are 5400RPM drives with 8MB of cache.
