Sony Ericsson and Napster today announced that they are entering a global partnership to offer a fully integrated digital music service for mobile operators. The service will allow users to coordinate wireless and PC downloading for both subscription and a la carte downloading.
In the back end, Napster will ensure mobile operators get a piece of the pie as they will participate in all revenue streams. That was one of the main concerns which has kept the Motorola iTunes phone at bay; the greedy operators control what we use.
The service should be live in Europe during the next 12 months. Asia, Latin America, and North America will follow.
