Sony has announced their new noise canceling headphones which reduce “white noise” by 80 percent. The MDR-NC50 is a full ear 40mm headphone set that cancels environmental noise leaving you with clarity of sound.

The noise canceling technology uses a built in microphone that detects external noise from low-frequency sources (20-1500hz). Then it creates an equal and opposite sound wave to cancel that noise. Sony’s tests claim that the headset offered a 14db reduction of sound at the 300hz level.

The MDR-NC50 should retail for around $200 will be available in June with pre-orders starting soon on Sony’s SonyStyle site.
