Canon has lifted the lid on their new 5.0 megapixel Canon Powershot S2 IS digital camera. The S2 IS is an upgrade to the S1 IS with an impressive list of features. The S2 uses Canons DIGIC II processor which is featured in many of Canon’s digital SLR cameras.

The new processor introduces a bunch of new enhancements which include a 45% faster auto focus, 50% faster start up time, 2.4 continuous frames per second, and the ability to take a still picture when video is recording.

In addition to the new processor, other features include 12x optical zoom with image stabilization, 1.8 inch flip-screen, USB 2.0, video recording at 30 or 15 fps up to 640×480 with stereo sound, 17 shooting modes, and super macro at 0cm.

The Canon Powershot S2 IS digital will be available in June for a price of around $500 US.
