With all the new handsets coming out with 3D game engine chips built in, major companies are beginning to see the potential for profit. Yahoo today announced that they have launched a studio to develop their own videogames for mobile phones. Yahoo also recently acquired a company called Stadeon which produced code which enables users to play games such as chess and poker head to head with users on the internet.

Yahoo has quite a bit of competition in this market such as Jamdat Mobile, who ported the ever so popular Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 to mobile handsets.
