Western Digital Enters 1-Inch Hard Drive Market: 6GB Micro Drive

Western Digital announced today that they have developed their own version of the 1-inch hard drives that we have seen from Hitachi and Seagate.

Their drive is capable of storing 6GB, which is 1GB more than the recently introduced Seagate drive. WD’s new drive will spin at 3,600 RPM The WD drive will come in Compact Flash II format for digital cameras and form factor format for portable players such as MP3 devices.

WD’s miniature drive entry is expected to ship in the second calendar quarter of 2005.
