We reported late last week that Cingular was getting the Treo 650 at the end of January, well, the rumor has been further confirmed in an internal memo. Gizmodo posted the internal memo on their site, no idea how they got it, but here it is.

As you might expect, both Blue and Orange [AT&T Wireless and Cingular - ed.] were engaged in beta testing the Treo 650 prior to the merger. We have moved these two efforts in parallel and Blue and Orange are now on parallel tracks regarding tech. acceptance.

Unlike the Sprint PCS CDMA 1X device, which used an existing, well-tried technology, the Cingular Treo 650 will be the first EDGE-capable unit. Since we incorporated a technology leap into the device development, it took longer to test and verify on two networks (Blue and Orange) at once.

We are now at the point where we believe we have a candidate build that can get us to technical acceptance. If we can TA the device by mid-January, we expect to launch by the end of January. This is not yet certain, but it is looking increasingly likely.

Please keep your eye out for an official communication on launch schedules, etc. next week.
