PalmSource is not the only mobile device manufacturer with high interests in Linux, NTT DoCoMo has just announced an agreement with MontaVista Software, a developer of Linux software for mobile handsets and other related devices, to acquire majority stake in the company for $3 million USD.
With already a handful of products using MontaVista Linux software, most notably the NEC N900iL handset, capable of both cellular and Wi-Fi connections simultaneously and the Motorola A760, the world’s first Linux phone. DoCoMo hopes the investment will allow them greater control and customization for their specific device needs.
