FeliCa equipped mobile phones will soon have the power to unlock doors, the technology designed by Itochu Techno-Science and NTT DoCoMo Kyushu will be incorporated in a new apartment building in Fukuoka later this month.

The service called “kesaka”, allows an I-mode FeliCa handset to send a key code to your apartment, if there is a power outage, each door is equipped with a backup battery that will last for about 200 open and closes. A log is generated and you can check the lock history to see when it was accessed and even have an email sent to you if someone accesses the lock while your away.
