NTT DoCoMo today has unveiled their prototype micro fuel cell 3G FOMA handset charger. The cradle-like device generates electric power by combining hydrogen, and harmless methanol to produce a chemical reaction.

Hydrogen ions are extracted from the air through a positive and negative electrode layer. This device is designed to charge the i-motion, i-appli, videophones and all other FOMA handsets. NTT DoCoMo says completion of the prototype micro fuel cell charger is looking closer to the end of 2005.
