The FCC has recently approved a new type of Wi-Fi and GSM phone for transferring WLAN calls to a GSM network. The Motorola CN620 supports quad band GSM (850, 900, 1800 and 1900 Mhz) and WLAN 802.11a, b and g frequencies.

The flip design is targeted to the corporate market and will allow web browsing, instant messaging and other basic PIM applications. One slight technical issue is that the phone will not be able to move WLAN calls back to the WLAN network once they are switched to GSM. Our sources indicate an announcement of the phone should come this summer, however the actual release of the phone may not be for another year.
