Napster has announced a promotional campaign that will give a free MP3 player to all new annual subscribers of the napster service. I find it hard to understand where this deal is a deal, the Napster premium service includes nothing more than streaming audio, you pay $119.40 for one year ($9.95 a month) to then be able to buy music for $9.95 to $13.95 per album.

Sure you get the Rio Chiba 128MB MP3 player that sells for $99 on Amazon.com as your reward for signing up to purchase music from Napster, personally I would sign up with someone like eMusic and get 40 tracks a month for that $9.95 spent and save your $120 for a larger MP3 player.

Napster also offers a promotional upgrade, for an extra $80, making that a total of $199.40 for your one year Napster account, you get the Rio Nitrus 1.5GB player, this only sells for $145.99 through online retailers. Napster does however have an impressive catalog of 750,000 tracks, but only available in WMA format.
