Fujitsu Siemens Computers has recently introduced two new handhelds – the Pocket LOOX 410 and 420 – designed for both private and corporate users. The new systems are extremely compact (at 11.3 cm x 7.1 cm x 1.4 cm, about half the size of a CD cover) and weigh only around 125 grams (or that of a small apple). The operating system, Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PCs, supports numerous entertainment, navigational and Office applications, including Mail, Excel and Word. While both models can connect to the Internet via Bluetooth, the Pocket LOOX 420 also has a wireless LAN interface for a fast connection via hotspot connectivity that can be used in parallel to the Bluetooth connection.
Today’s users demand small, easy-to-carry systems that allow them to retrieve information from the Internet, write e-mails, synchronize their address book and get fast access to corporate applications. The Pocket LOOX 400 Series fulfills all these needs. Whether indoors or outdoors, there is always a clear picture with the transflective 240 x 320 pixel 65.536 color TFT touch screen display.
Both systems are now available from specialty stores. Recommended retail prices are €299 for the Pocket LOOX 410 and €399 for the Pocket LOOX 420.
Both new Pocket LOOX models – the 410 and 420 – offer extensive communications functions, including integrated Bluetooth and Infrared interfaces as well as an SD I/O card slot. The Pocket LOOX 420 also offers the flexibility of wireless LAN. All this means Pocket LOOX users can conveniently send and receive e-mail, manage their day planner and contacts, as well as access information online.
The Pocket LOOX 400 Series employs 300 MHz and 400 MHz Intel XScale PXA 255 processors together with a version of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 2003 operating system optimized for these processors. Users thus benefit from the fast applications and low power consumption.
Customers will enjoy long periods of independence with the Pocket LOOX recharging concept: the standard 1100 mAh battery allows operation for up to 10 hours. It is also easy to exchange, and a battery buffer provides the user a 30 minute window in which to do so.
