iVDR Standard For Removable HDD Launched

The iVDR promoting consortium is formed by 40 firms, including HDD makers such as Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Ltd and Fujitsu Ltd, in addition to I-O Data, Sanyo Electric Co, Ltd, Sharp Corp and Toyota Motor Corp.

Removable HDDs, which generally are used with a PC by inserting/extracting it like a cartridge, has already been commercialized as a PC peripheral, but it has not been attracting much attention. As it tends to be expensive considering the storage capacity, removable HDDs have not been watched with keen interest so far.
