The new Dell Axim handhelds introduced today run on Windows Mobile 2003 SE software for Pocket PC, making these the first PDAs to ship with the new operating system by Microsoft. With the fastest Intel PXA270 processors ever designed for a PDA, the Axim X30 will be available in three different models. The low end start version for $199 has no wireless capabilities an Intel 312MHz, 32MB Intel Flash and 32MB SDRAM, a $249 model with similar features to the $199 version but adding 64MB ROM, 64MB SDRAM, 802.11b and Bluetooth, then the powerhouse $349 model that has an Intel 624MHz processor, 64MB ROM, 64MB SDRAM, 802.11b, Bluetooth and cradle.

All Axim X30’s are powered by Intel’s PXA270 processors, which provide excellent multimedia performance and power management features that help extend battery life. Two processor speeds are available for customers to choose from, 312MHz or 624MHz, the fastest processor speed available for handheld devices.

The Axim X30 features Microsoft’s updated software, Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, which enables users to switch between portrait and landscape display orientation, and other features that enable easy viewing of Web site content.

All three configurations include built-in Secure Digital I/O slot, a 3.5-inch transflective TFT color display with 240×320 (QVGA) resolution, headphone jack and improved recorder capability, and scroll dial. The $199 and the $249 configurations come with a travel sync cable while the $349 configuration comes with a sync/recharge cradle with an extra battery charge slot that accommodates either the spare standard battery (950 mAh) or the optional high-capacity (1800 mAh) battery ($99). All come with Dell’s One Year Advanced Exchange Service.
