The 1394 Trade Association has approved a new specification for Wireless FireWire. The new spec will allow wired or unwired FireWire devices to connect to each other via Wi-Fi protocol.

“’Wireless FireWire’ is ready for product development,” said James Snider, executive director of the 1394 Trade Association. “Our Wireless Working Group did an excellent job translating the 1394 infrastructure to the wireless environment. Developers already working with wired 1394 products can easily develop new wireless devices such as DVD Players, set-top boxes, mp3 players and camcorders incorporating the 802.15.3 node.
