China last year sold 1.77 million MP3 player units, a jump from 528,000 in 2002. Sales rose over 130 percent to 187 million USD.

The report released from CCID Consulting research firm attributes the explosive growth to the increasing number of personal computers and mass music resources on the Internet.

In the Friday edition of China Daily, they reported over 100 companies manufacturing MP3 players and producing 300 brands, the demand has risen, so has the production.

Digital music players are predicted to continue growing in the same pace in the next two years.

A shortage of flash memory cards may cause price hikes in the device, a 128 MB flash memory card has risen around 70 percent in the last few months.
